White Claw Hard Seltzer was launched in 2016 by the Mark Anthony Group and it took America by storm ― more than half of all hard seltzer sold in the US in 2019 was White Claw, eventually leading to a brief shortage. ![]() Most often it is made by fermenting cane sugar or malted barley, yet several new variants are based on wine, fermented fruit, and neutral spirit. The canned, ready-to-drink alcoholic beverage is low in calories and refreshingly light with the alcohol volume usually around 5% ABV. Hard seltzers have been around for a while, but it wasn't until the summer of 2019 that they truly exploded.
